Leadership Quomodo: The "How" of Leadership

Leadership practice is about making a difference. It is important to align practice to the achievement of public interest outcomes through supporting systems and structures and the appropriate skills and behaviours required for collective leadership. We have an opportunity to develop the concept of intelligent leadership through 360° networks, knowledge and skills. Moreover, we can do this through a process that applies learning and development to work-based practice through applied leadership challenges grounded in action learning but with an added dimension (to action learning) by the inclusion of the public interest and activity. The aim is to display certain types of behaviours (that can be called transformational) in encouraging people to attain a higher level of achievement in a way that transcends their personal interests and reflects their personal values.

This is what is referred to here as the Leadership Quomodo, the latter term originating from classical Latin, that describes the “manner, way or means” of doing something, in this case, leading in the public interest as its overall impact (or, to continue the Latin origins, its quibus auxillis).

This section of the Selfless Leader website provides an outline of the understanding, tools and techniques in aligning leadership practice to publicly valued outcomes. It is based on the oft-neglecdted skills of reflection and reflexivity which is where the Leadership Quomodo begins. Click on each of the images below to get a sense of how this draws on, initially, reflection/reflexivity; the importance of leading in the public interest and then explores the three parts of the Selfless Leader. The final image considers Applied Leadership Challenges and asks the question, "Are you Ready?" Once you are ready to start your leadership journey, move onto the first section.

If you have purchased a copy of the Selfless Leader, you can get access to an online interactive reflective journal to help you as you learn the skills of putting your learning of leadership into practice through Applied Leadership.
